Methanolic Extract of Angelica glauca Edgew Root and Stem: A Possible Component of Herbal Medicines against Respiratory Infections

Abstract: Plants are identified to produce a variety of compounds protect themselves against diversity pathogens. This study assessed the antibacterial, antioxidant potential and phytochemical screening medicinal plant Angelica glauca (Choru) root stem extracts respiratory tract pathogens i.e., Staphylococcus aureus MTCC 1144, Streptococcus pneumoniae 655, pyogenes 442, Pseudomonas aeruginosa 2474 Klebsiella 4030. The material was collected from Tungnath 3,800m amsl Garhwal Himalaya. Root plants were washed, shade dried, grinded into fine powder extracted in organic solvents different polarity (petroleum ether, chloroform, methanol water). Antibacterial activities prepared assayed using agar well diffusion two-fold serial dilution method MIC determination. Antioxidant determined DPPH assay analysis performed qualitative methods for phytochemicals. Experimental outcomes revealed maximum antibacterial activity extract; also groups phytochemicals present methanolic extract. extract produced ZOIs 11.0±0.54mm 30.3±1.58mm diameters MICs ranges recorded between 3.12 mg/ml 25 all tested bacteria. Alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, steroids saponins A. glauca. favors good response towards as natural herbal medicines, either pure form or supplement with other formulations already available market, enhance their diseases. In COVID-19 pandemic situation, use can be beneficial, it’s showed promising bacterial human tract.
